What is Eva's GEM Program?
Eva's GEM Program is a virtual 12-week online class and mentoring program from June to August and mentoring for young African-American high school-aged girls.
During the weekly summer sessions, Black women will speak about topics they specialize in and share their perspectives.
Current Topics: Taking Care of Self; Learning More about Financial Literacy; What’s Next, Education-Wise?; and Know Your Rights.
At the end of the program, the girls receive a certificate of completion and the chance to win a scholarship.
Welcome Aboard Packages are given to all mentors and mentees to feel a part of the team!
For the 2022-2023 GEM Program we will be adding a monthly virtual event component throughout the year for mentors and mentees to come and fellowship.
Once mentees are in the program, they do not have to reapply but will need to let us know if they would like to change their mentor or attend Eva's GEM sessions the following year.
What About the Mentoring Part?
Girls are matched with a mentor and meet once a week to discuss whatever they see fit. The girls are also given journal questions/activities to check the sessions to make sure they can better understand and retain the knowledge.
Mentors and Mentees meet once a week during the 12-week online class and 2/month during the year from September-May.
Mentors and mentees can apply for the 2022-2023 GEM Mentoring program starting February 1st, 2022, to April 15th, 2022.
Once mentors are in the program, they do not have to reapply but will need to let us know if they would like to change mentees or if anything has occurred since their previous interview and background check that programmers need to know about.
What about the Eva's GEM Scholarship?
ALL Eva's GEM Mentees will have a chance to apply to win a scholarship.
There are multiple scholarships available.
Mentees graduating and heading off to a University/College or Career School have a chance to win a larger scholarship.
